A Humble Beginning …
Yearning to pull the plugs on ignorance, warfare, hapless suffering, environment decay and pollution? Ever get the feeling that unfortunate individuals and groups are being marginalized?
Malacors began as a name for a book about an imaginary kingdom dealing with these issues. In the course of researching for Malacors, we came across a great many people and organizations needing help. A little help can go a long way in retaining a modicum of dignity in their daily lives. To these individuals and organizations, we dedicate the push for setting up the non-profit organization, The Malacors Foundation.
Goal 1: Podcast For World Peace
Our first goal is promoting world peace via articles, Podcasts, or Podcast video. As we all know, Podcast listeners have reached 6 million currently and this number is estimated to grow in 5 years' time, beyond 50 million by 2010. In the near future, Podcasting will become a major information resource center; especially for the young ages.
While there are many Podcasts currently, only a few are focused on education. By adopting this “infant device”, we are one step closer to creating global harmony, educating our young people about our world: how to love, care, and act for the poor, resuscitate our environment, and achieve a kinder society.
Podcast and Podcast Video are similar to TV broadcasting, except that the channels now are through the Internet. We believe an eight-year-old child could be our news anchor if he/she has an important vision of the world to share. An urgent need of a poor adult can be posted on such a portal. A seventy-year-old elder can teach science on our portal through a podcast course.
In short, imagine a portal working along the same principles as a PBS station and Help Hotline for everyone in the world!
Goal 2: Act For The Poor
Helping poor people such as peasants caught in the digital divide to harness the internet to sell to the world. eBay has shocked the world with its phenomenal success. It has made the impossible - possible. We truly believe that the eMarket strategy creates new-found hope for the poor. And this is fast becoming possible with world-wide efforts such as AMD & MIT to produce cheap laptops that won’t even need electricity to run on.
Goal 3: eLearning for Poor Children
In China alone, more than half a million children go to bed hungry every night. These kids even if they survive starvation will need to join the workforce quickly. Going to school is a luxury they can ill afford. A mobile school portal can quickly, if not easily, address this problem by making rudimentary education accessible. A young child and even adults can learn at any time of the day so long as there is such a laptop and even without electricity. Let’s not wait for the day where every family can afford electricity and laptops to kick-start such a portal.

We understand that this is an ambitious and long over-due undertaking; that we are all in it for the long-haul, including our children and our children’s children.
